Canadian Consumer Confidence Holds Near Lowest Since April
According to Bloomberg, Canadian consumer confidence “remains subdued amid a worsening outlook for housing and the economy.” The Bloomberg Nanos Canadian Confidence Index was at 55.6 last week. It was the lowest since April.
Canada’s banking watchdog warns lenders face big losses if housing markets turn
According to Calgary Herald, the recent change in mortgage interest rate should be a warning sign for the lenders and borrowers. The lenders and borrowers “should not be making decisions based on a short-term ability to repay, particularly given the risks created by high house prices and a long period of record low rates”.
Toronto to consider proposal for landlord licensing
According to Canadian Real Estate Wealth, the Licensing and Standards Committee is set to consider the landlord licensing later this week. Tracey Cook, the executive director, municipal licensing and standards is recommending City Council approve new by-laws for rental apartments. He suggests that all buildings need to be registered with the city.
